We are facing tremendous
challenges in these uncertain times, and the decisions made in
state government today will have a lasting impact on generations
to come.
As we confront the effects of the global economic crisis here in
New York, our State government is facing a fiscal crisis of
historic proportions, including a budget shortfall of $14
billion this year.
The Democrats in Albany
are proposing massive tax increases to fuel even more State
spending - tax increases that will force businesses to layoff
even more workers and add yet another burden to the family
budget. Now is not the time to raise taxes.
We need to get New York's economy back on the right track with a
state-stimulus package that will cut taxes on small businesses -
the lifeblood of our economy - and create jobs. And we need to
reduce unnecessary and wasteful spending to protect taxpayers.
My colleagues and I in the Senate Republican Conference are
fighting for these principles - please join us in the fight. We
need your help to ensure a brighter, stronger, more prosperous
future for all New Yorkers.
Dean G. Skelos,
Senate Republican Leader
